Ernesto Sirolli in Brisbane September 2011

What do unemployed hippies, an Italian shoemaker, Western Australian fishermen and a man who knows nothing about business have in common? Passion, creativity and powerful storytelling which can make a difference in our creative communities.

Dr Ernesto Sirolli’s story of the genesis of his ‘Trinity of Management’ principles has one simple but profound message for creative people looking to earn a living from their creativity: only do what you love to do and find someone you trust who loves to do what you hate.

This seemingly straightforward but profound message will be delivered to artists, community arts workers, business people and others in the audience of the Sirolli Seminar sponsored by Arts Queensland – Friday the 16th September at UQ Womens Playhouse Theatre St Lucia 10am – 4pm.

During the seminar participants will hear Ernesto’s moving and often hilarious account of his experiences of developing entrepreneurs throughout the world and starting in Western Australia in the 1980s. Through his engaging storytelling and grass-roots experiences, Sirolli urges the audience to dedicate their lives to doing what they love and doing it well – he says “forget about trying to learn how to sell or manage the money – if you are an artist and only love is to make the product.

If you love making/doing it – do that beautifully and you will contribute your gift to the world.

In fact, Ernesto says this is the only way that successful entrepreneurs have ever developed sustainable businesses – which is contrary to the Entrepreneurial Myth – that you must do it all yourself – Make it! Sell it! And Manage the Money!

Ernesto says his ‘Trinity of Management’ works to help creative people set up successful businesses is based on the universal truth that “Every man and woman at any given time in their lives has a wish to better themselves”. You don’t have to take ideas into communities or tell people what to do – the people there already know what to do. They have the passion, imagination and resources and You only have to listen – not arrive with a ‘briefcase of answers’ – and then help people do what THEY want to do.

That’s how you inspire a creative entrepreneurial community. See you at UQ St Lucia Friday the 16th – go to www.niser.org.au and register
