Funding Strategies

There has been considerable pressure on the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to bring the incredibly diverse Sunshine Coast community together. Now the council has the uncertain distinction of being the fourth largest council in Australia with assets of approximately $5billion and an annual budget of $650million and the challenging role of achieving a balanced and sustainable future for this region.

The National Institute of Socio-Economic and Environmental Research (NISER) is in consultation with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s Economic Development and Council Entrepreneurship portfolio to increase the National Stock Exchange (NSX) presence on the Sunshine Coast, and is also working to build further on existing relationships with chambers of commerce, industry bodies and higher educational institutions in the region. NISER have also added their supporting comments to the current Federal Government review of regional development models, positioning the NSX as a vital component of regional economic development throughout Australia.

Over the coming months NISER is leveraging this strategy for the growth of the NSX through a number of initiatives include including:

1. Greater resources for the NISER/NSX Sunshine Coast program from the National Stock Exchange.

2. Presentations to the council and major business and economic organisations with the purpose of building greater awareness.

3. Build a strong relationship with the economic development managers from the three sub regions of the Sunshine Coast Council.

4. Build on the existing relationship with State Department of Tourism Regional development and Industry Sunshine Coast.

5. Inform local Federal Members concerning the ability of the NSX to develop the regional economy, and enlist their support for funding from the Federal Government in line with the support given to the Gold Coast program.

6. Expand on relationships with Industry bodies and their senior representatives in Queensland in order to lobby State Government in regard to support for NSX Sunshine Coast.

7. Investigate opportunities for wider direct business engagement with the NSX program Sunshine Coast.

NISER is supported by businesses on the Sunshine Coast and in particular in the Cooroy community. NISER also derives revenues by delivering on Government projects such as Succession Planning (Building Entrepreneurship for Small Business) and Enterprise Facilitation seminars and facilitating Community and Sports Developments Plans, Funding and Grant applications. The organisation is a not for profit company dedicated to providing opportunity for the advancement of community and economic development strategies and sees the National Stock Exchange as an excellent opportunity for business expansion in the Sunshine Coast.
